I never imagined I would be in a position where putting food on the table would feel uncertain.

I’m a mother of a large family, and for a long time we managed. It wasn’t always easy, but we got by. Then my husband became unwell. What started as something we thought would pass turned into a long, ongoing struggle. He hasn’t been able to work, and slowly everything began to unravel.

That’s when L’chaim Foodbank first stepped in.

At the beginning, I told myself it was temporary—that we just needed a little help to get through a difficult patch. But life had other plans. Not long after, I found out I was pregnant. It should have been a joyful time, but instead I felt fear. How would we cope? How would we provide?

Then everything became even more serious. I developed sepsis and was suddenly hospitalised. It was a full crisis. I was terrified—not just for myself, but for my children. Being away from them, knowing how fragile everything already was, was one of the hardest experiences of my life.

Through all of this, L’chaim didn’t just “help”—they carried us.

The deliveries kept coming. Food, essentials, things for the children—everything we needed to keep going. When I couldn’t be there, they made sure my family was still cared for. When we felt like everything was falling apart, they gave us stability.

We don’t have family nearby. And the family we do have simply don’t have the means to help. There was no safety net… until L’chaim became one.

They became our family.

It’s not just the food—it’s the feeling that someone sees you, that someone cares whether your children are okay, whether you have enough to eat, whether you’re managing. In our darkest moments, that meant everything.

I don’t know where we would be without them. Truly, I don’t.

Today, we are still facing challenges. My husband is still unwell, and life is still uncertain. But because of L’chaim Foodbank, we are not facing it alone.

And for that, I am endlessly grateful.

Thank you for being there for families like mine. You are changing lives in ways words can’t fully express.

With all my heart,A grateful mum
