Dear Friends at L’Chaim Foodbank,
I read Yehoshua’s story with deep emotion and interest. His journey — from fear and darkness to clarity and salvation — resonated with me so strongly that I felt compelled to reach out and share our own story, one that is so profoundly connected to the holy work you do.
My wife and I spent many years living in the quiet pain that so many couples know too well — infertility. At first, there is hope: the “maybes” and “ifs.” Then come the doctor visits, the tests, the searching, the treatments. Each step brings anticipation, followed too often by disappointment. Dreams begin to form, and then, heartbreakingly, they shatter.
There were miscarriages. There was loss. There was grief that words never quite capture. Over time, the world itself begins to feel different. Family gatherings, celebrations, and even casual conversations become reminders of what is missing. Relationships, moments, and milestones all start being viewed through one painful lens — children and babies, the very thing we longed for most.
Eventually, after years of effort and anguish, we reached a point where even the doctors had gently, but firmly, written us off. We stepped back for a while. We tried to protect our hearts. Yet somewhere deep inside, we knew that Hashem can do anything.
A little over a year ago, we decided to try one more time — but not without first creating a vessel for bracha.

We wrote a letter to be sent to the Ohel of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In that letter, we made a pledge of support to the L’Chaim Foodbank. We wrote that in the merit of helping give Hashem’s children life — by ensuring they are fed, sustained, and cared for — we were asking Hashem to bless us with the gift of life of our own: a child.
The journey that followed was not simple. There were moments of fear, setbacks, and times when it felt like everything might unravel again. But instead of retreating, we strengthened our trust in Hashem and recommitted ourselves to that vessel we had created.
Ten months later, we found ourselves holding the most beautiful gift imaginable — our baby. Words cannot begin to describe the gratitude, the joy, and the awe we felt. After years of pain, silence, and unanswered questions, our arms — and our hearts — were finally full.
Knowing that the L’Chaim Foodbank was a partner in this journey makes it feel only right to share our story with you. Just as Yehoshua found salvation through helping sustain others, we, too, saw life come into our world through the merit of giving life to others.
If you feel that our story can inspire or strengthen others, please feel free to share it — though we kindly ask that it be done without using our names.
With profound gratitude and heartfelt thanks for all that you do.

“When my dad lost everything, we went from living in a mansion to sleeping on a mattress in a tiny studio with no heating and sometimes no food. Some weeks, the hot meals from L’Chaim Foodbank were the only hot food we had. You didn’t just feed us—you kept us going. We will never forget your kindness.” BE |
